Rodina si p\u0159\u00e1la, aby d\u011bti p\u0159i\u0161ly na sv\u011bt v&nbsp;tomto pal\u00e1ci, a nikoli na rodov\u00e9m panstv\u00ed, kter\u00e9 se v&nbsp;t\u00e9 dob\u011b nach\u00e1zelo na \u00fazem\u00ed rusk\u00e9ho z\u00e1boru rozd\u011blen\u00e9ho Polska. Ze vsi Przy\u0142uki, nach\u00e1zej\u00edc\u00ed se v&nbsp;dne\u0161n\u00edm B\u011blorusku, tedy t\u011bhotn\u00e1 Josefa Hutten-Czapsk\u00e1 odcestovala do Prahy, kde \u017eila jej\u00ed matka a sourozenci. Potomka porodila v&nbsp;s\u00eddle sv\u00e9ho star\u0161\u00edho bratra Franti\u0161ka Thuna, dlouholet\u00e9ho \u010desk\u00e9ho m\u00edstodr\u017e\u00edc\u00edho a pozd\u011bj\u0161\u00edho (v letech 1898\u20131899) rakousk\u00e9ho p\u0159edsedy vl\u00e1dy. Jako porodn\u00ed asistentka poslou\u017eila Gabriela Sudov\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. dubna \u2013 chlapec byl pok\u0159t\u011bn v&nbsp;pra\u017esk\u00e9 chr\u00e1mu svat\u00e9ho Mikul\u00e1\u0161e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D\u011btstv\u00ed pro\u017eil J\u00f3zef Czapski str\u00e1vil na rodov\u00e9m panstv\u00ed v&nbsp;Przy\u0142uk\u00e1ch nedaleko Minsku (v sou\u010dasnosti B\u011blorusko, tehdy rusk\u00fd z\u00e1bor rozd\u011blen\u00e9ho Polska).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1903<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13. srpna \u2013 po porodu zem\u0159ela \u0161estat\u0159icetilet\u00e1 Josefa Hutten-Czapsk\u00e1. J\u00f3zef b\u011bhem jedin\u00e9ho dne ztratil matku i p\u0159ed\u010dasn\u011b narozenou sestru Teresu. Bylo mu tehdy sedm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pod veden\u00edm dom\u00e1c\u00edho u\u010ditele Wac\u0142awa Iwanowsk\u00e9ho a guvernantek se u\u010dil francouz\u0161tinu, n\u011bm\u010dinu a ru\u0161tinu. Z\u00edskal z\u00e1kladn\u00ed vzd\u011blan\u00ed. Dost\u00e1val hodiny kresby, sochal, ale u\u010dil se i hr\u00e1t na klav\u00edr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1905<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spolu se sv\u00fdmi \u010dty\u0159mi sourozenci pob\u00fdval v&nbsp;srpnu a v&nbsp;z\u00e1\u0159\u00ed pod dohledem sv\u00e9 babi\u010dky El\u017cbiety Meyendorffov\u00e9 v&nbsp;Suddenbachu nedaleko Rigy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1909<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Str\u00e1vil l\u00e9to v Houlgate v Normandii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1912\u20131915<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vzd\u011bl\u00e1val se na 12. gymn\u00e1ziu na Fontance v Petrohrad\u011b. Doprov\u00e1zel jej u\u010ditel Wac\u0142aw Iwanowski. V&nbsp;t\u00e9\u017ee dob\u011b pokra\u010doval ve studiu hry na klav\u00edr a chodil na hodiny kresby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V&nbsp;l\u00e9t\u011b se sv\u00fdm bratrem Stanis\u0142awem a u\u010ditelem Wac\u0142awem Iwanowsk\u00fdm cestoval po It\u00e1lii, pob\u00fdval i v&nbsp;Ben\u00e1tk\u00e1ch. Nav\u0161t\u00edvil Villars-sur-Ollon ve \u0161v\u00fdcarsk\u00fdch Alp\u00e1ch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>28. \u010dervence 1914 vypukla prvn\u00ed sv\u011btov\u00e1 v\u00e1lka.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1915<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>30. \u010dervna byl p\u0159ijat na Pr\u00e1vnickou fakultu Carsk\u00e9 univerzity v&nbsp;Petrohrad\u011b, co\u017e mu zaru\u010dovalo odklad vojensk\u00e9 slu\u017eby. Bydlel u str\u00fdce Aleksandra Meyendorffa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kdy\u017e po letech vzpom\u00ednal na sv\u00e1 studia, konstatoval, \u017ee se nic nenau\u010dil. \u201eZamiloval jsem se do Pu\u0161kina a Dostojevsk\u00e9ho. M\u011bl jsem jak\u00fdsi komplex m\u00e9n\u011bcennosti, pokud jde o ruskou literaturu.\u201c (film Czapski, re\u017eie A. Hollandov\u00e1, A. Wolski, 1985).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1916<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V&nbsp;souvislosti s&nbsp;vypuknut\u00edm prvn\u00ed sv\u011btov\u00e9 v\u00e1lky (v roce 1914) a zru\u0161en\u00edm z\u00e1kona (v lednu 1916), kter\u00fd student\u016fm zaru\u010doval odklad vojensk\u00e9 slu\u017eby, obdr\u017eel v&nbsp;l\u00e9t\u011b povol\u00e1vac\u00ed rozkaz do arm\u00e1dy. V&nbsp;dan\u00e9 situaci se rozhodl vyu\u017e\u00edt mo\u017enosti dos\u00e1hnout v&nbsp;rychlej\u0161\u00edm re\u017eimu podd\u016fstojnick\u00e9 hodnosti a 25. kv\u011btna po\u017e\u00e1dal rektora o uvoln\u011bn\u00ed z&nbsp;univerzity. Jeho souhlas z\u00edskal 31. kv\u011btna. D\u00edky konex\u00edm sv\u00e9ho otce (v\u010detn\u011b pomoci gener\u00e1la N. V. Bibikova) nastoupil do P\u00e1\u017eec\u00edho korpusu. V&nbsp;t\u00e9to elitn\u00ed vojensk\u00e9 vysok\u00e9 \u0161kole studoval od \u010dervna 1916 do \u00fanora 1917, aby dos\u00e1hl hodnosti ni\u017e\u0161\u00edho d\u016fstojn\u00edka jezdectva. P\u00e1\u017eec\u00ed korpus, kde v&nbsp;t\u00e9 dob\u011b bylo mnoho Pol\u00e1k\u016f, mimo jin\u00e9 jeho bratranci hrabata Platerov\u00e9, absolvoval s&nbsp;hodnost\u00ed prapor\u010d\u00edka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u010cetl antimilitaristickou bro\u017euru Romaina Rollanda <em>Au dessus de la m\u00eal\u00e9e<\/em> (Nad v\u0159avou). Pod vlivem \u010detby napsal dopis autorovi, kter\u00fd mu n\u00e1sledn\u011b odpov\u011bd\u011bl. Byl to okam\u017eik, kdy se za\u010dalo rodit jeho pacifistick\u00e9 sm\u00fd\u0161len\u00ed. Oslovilo jej d\u00edlo Lva Nikolajevi\u010de Tolst\u00e9ho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1917<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Czapski byl v&nbsp;Petrohrad\u011b sv\u011bdkem v\u00fdbuchu \u00fanorov\u00e9 revoluce, jej\u00ed prvn\u00ed dni v\u0161ak str\u00e1vil ve \u0161koln\u00ed nemocnici.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eN\u00e1m se ta jarn\u00ed revoluce jevila nad\u011bjepln\u011b, domn\u00edvali jsme se, \u017ee se cel\u00e9 rusk\u00e9 imp\u00e9rium rozpadne na jednotliv\u00e9 nez\u00e1visl\u00e9 st\u00e1ty, a p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm \u017ee Polsko se obnov\u00ed ve sv\u00fdch historick\u00fdch hranic\u00edch,\u201c napsala po letech Maria Czapsk\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Od \u010dervence slou\u017eil u 1. pluku krechoweck\u00fdch hul\u00e1n\u016f, kter\u00fd v&nbsp;l\u00e9t\u011b t\u00e9ho\u017e roku bojoval proti arm\u00e1d\u00e1m Centr\u00e1ln\u00edch mocnost\u00ed v&nbsp;oblasti kolem Stanislavova, Tarnopolu a Kalu\u0161e (na Ukrajin\u011b).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1918<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22. ledna v Bobrujsku vystoupil pod vlivem pacifistick\u00fdch my\u0161lenek z&nbsp;arm\u00e1dy je\u0161t\u011b spole\u010dn\u011b s&nbsp;Antonim a Edwardem Marylsk\u00fdmi. Po n\u011bkolikadenn\u00edm pobytu v&nbsp;Przy\u0142uk\u00e1ch odjeli v\u0161ichni t\u0159i do Petrohradu. Zakr\u00e1tko se k&nbsp;nim p\u0159ipojily Czapsk\u00e9ho star\u0161\u00ed sestry Karla a Maria a spole\u010dn\u011b zalo\u017eili n\u00e1bo\u017eensko-pacifistickou komunu, jej\u00edm\u017e duchovn\u00edm v\u016fdcem se stal Antoni Marylski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Na konci kv\u011btna se Czapsk\u00e9mu d\u00edky pomoci Henryka Przew\u0142ock\u00e9ho poda\u0159ilo odjet spole\u010dn\u011b se sestrami sm\u011brem k Var\u0161av\u011b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Od 28. srpna do 4. \u0159\u00edjna pob\u00fdval naposledy na rodinn\u00e9m s\u00eddle v Przy\u0142uk\u00e1ch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16. \u0159\u00edjna se ve Var\u0161av\u011b zapsal na akademii v\u00fdtvarn\u00fdch um\u011bn\u00ed do ateli\u00e9ru Stanis\u0142awa Lentze. Chodil tam jen m\u011bs\u00edc\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>11. listopadu z\u00edskalo Polsko po 123 letech, kdy chyb\u011blo na politick\u00fdch map\u00e1ch Evropy, op\u011bt nez\u00e1vislost.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eOzbrojen\u00e1 pohotovost Ukrajinc\u016f a ohro\u017een\u00ed Lvova mobilizovalo [polskou] ml\u00e1de\u017e. Akademick\u00e9 shrom\u00e1\u017ed\u011bn\u00ed se tedy usneslo o tom, \u017ee dojde k&nbsp;v\u0161eobecn\u00e9mu n\u00e1boru do vojska a budou uzav\u0159eny vysok\u00e9 \u0161koly,\u201c psala Maria Czapsk\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eCel\u00e1 ml\u00e1de\u017e vstupovala do arm\u00e1dy, v&nbsp;Malopolsku se bojovalo proti Ukrajinc\u016fm a j\u00e1 jsem se c\u00edtil zcela bezradn\u00fd, nebo\u0165 jsem v&nbsp;souladu se sv\u00fdm p\u0159esv\u011bd\u010den\u00edm necht\u011bl a nemohl vstoupit do vojska, a ocitl jsem se tedy v&nbsp;jak\u00e9msi vylou\u010den\u00ed ze spole\u010dnosti, vylou\u010den\u00ed z&nbsp;Polska. Obr\u00e1til jsem se tedy na velitele 1. pluku [\u2026] a po\u017e\u00e1dal je, aby mi p\u0159id\u011blili jakoukoli pr\u00e1ci, jen abych p\u0159i tom nemusel zab\u00edjet,\u201c vzpom\u00ednal J\u00f3zef Czapski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Byl pov\u011b\u0159en mis\u00ed, jej\u00edm\u017e c\u00edlem bylo nal\u00e9zt p\u011bt polsk\u00fdch d\u016fstojn\u00edk\u016f 1. pluku krechoweck\u00fdch hul\u00e1n\u016f a v&nbsp;listopadu se vydal do Petrohradu. Kdy\u017e sh\u00e1n\u011bl o t\u011bchto poh\u0159e\u0161ovan\u00fdch informace, sezn\u00e1mil se \u00faplnou n\u00e1hodou s&nbsp;Dmitrijem S. Mere\u017ekovsk\u00fdm, jeho man\u017eelkou Zinaidou Gippiusovou a Dmitrijem V. Filosofovem, kte\u0159\u00ed mu vysv\u011btlili, jak je mo\u017eno a z\u00e1hodno sladit pacifistick\u00e9 my\u0161len\u00ed s&nbsp;bojem proti nep\u0159\u00edteli. Vz\u00e1jemn\u011b se natolik sbl\u00ed\u017eili, \u017ee je v&nbsp;zim\u011b roku 1918 nav\u0161t\u011bvoval v&nbsp;Sergejevsk\u00e9 ulici t\u00e9m\u011b\u0159 denn\u011b.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1919<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22. ledna se vr\u00e1til do Var\u0161avy a ozn\u00e1mil, \u017ee pol\u0161t\u00ed zajatci byli zast\u0159eleni. Pob\u00fdval rovn\u011b\u017e v&nbsp;Krakov\u011b, kde jej pod vlivem \u010detby Stanis\u0142awa Brzozowsk\u00e9ho a Cypriana Kamila Norwida za\u010dala oslovovat vlastn\u00ed polskost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1920<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do kv\u011btna slou\u017eil coby \u0159adov\u00fd voj\u00edn v&nbsp;obrn\u011bn\u00e9m vlaku \u015amia\u0142y (Odv\u00e1\u017en\u00fd), jemu\u017e veleli brat\u0159i Ma\u0142agow\u0161t\u00ed. Od kv\u011btna bojoval u 1. pluku krechoweck\u00fdch hul\u00e1n\u016f a z\u00fa\u010dastnil se kyjevsk\u00e9ho ta\u017een\u00ed proti bol\u0161evik\u016fm. Byl vyznamen\u00e1n k\u0159\u00ed\u017eem Virtuti Militari a pov\u00fd\u0161en do hodnosti podporu\u010d\u00edka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eV z\u00e1v\u011bru roku 1920, tedy v&nbsp;roce nejv\u011bt\u0161\u00edho ohro\u017een\u00ed Polska a jeho osvobozen\u00ed, je\u017e b\u00fdv\u00e1 ozna\u010dov\u00e1no jako \u201az\u00e1zrak na Visle\u2018, jsme se s&nbsp;bratrem rozhodli usadit se v&nbsp;Krakov\u011b, kam se n\u00e1\u0161 d\u011bde\u010dek p\u0159est\u011bhoval na st\u00e1\u0159\u00ed a z\u0159\u00eddil muzeum pojmenovan\u00e9 po sob\u011b. Na\u0161i babi\u010dku tam pojily v\u0159el\u00e9 vztahy s&nbsp;rody Popiel\u016f, Morawsk\u00fdch a Pus\u0142owsk\u00fdch \u2013 Krakov mi tedy byl bli\u017e\u0161\u00ed ne\u017e Var\u0161ava,\u201c napsala Maria Czapsk\u00e1. \u201eV&nbsp;cel\u00e9m sjednocen\u00e9m Polsku se otev\u00edraly \u0161koly, univerzity a akademie. Kone\u010dn\u011b jsme se \u2013 po tolika prodlev\u00e1ch \u2013 mohli za\u010d\u00edt v\u011bnovat na\u0161emu studiu.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1921<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V&nbsp;\u00fanoru se zapsal na akademii v\u00fdtvarn\u00fdch um\u011bn\u00ed v&nbsp;Krakov\u011b a zah\u00e1jil studium mal\u00ed\u0159stv\u00ed. Doch\u00e1zel mimo jin\u00e9 do ateli\u00e9ru W\u0142adys\u0142awa Jarock\u00e9ho, Wojciecha Weisse a J\u00f3zefa Pankiewicze. Velmi \u010dasto jezdil do Var\u0161avy a st\u00fdkal se tam s&nbsp;Dmitrijem Filosofovem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1923<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se spolu\u017ea\u010dkami a spolu\u017e\u00e1ky z&nbsp;akademie v\u00fdtvarn\u00fdch um\u011bn\u00ed zalo\u017eil uskupen\u00ed Komitet Paryski (Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017esk\u00fd v\u00fdbor), z&nbsp;jeho\u017e zkratky KP se vyvinulo jejich hovorov\u00e9 ozna\u010den\u00ed \u201eKapi\u015bci\u201c (kapist\u00e9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1924<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V&nbsp;l\u00e9t\u011b se \u010dlenov\u00e9 uskupen\u00ed vypravili do Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017ee, Czapski se k&nbsp;nim p\u0159ipojil v&nbsp;z\u00e1\u0159\u00ed. Jako jedin\u00fd z&nbsp;nich plynule hovo\u0159il francouzsky a m\u011bl na starosti organiza\u010dn\u00ed z\u00e1le\u017eitosti. Pom\u00e1hal spolu\u017e\u00e1k\u016fm naj\u00edt pr\u00e1ci a nav\u00e1zat styky s&nbsp;francouzsk\u00fdm prost\u0159ed\u00edm. Pro\u017e\u00edval tehdy obdob\u00ed pochybnost\u00ed o sv\u00e9m v\u00fdtvarn\u00e9m nad\u00e1n\u00ed. V&nbsp;Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017ei s&nbsp;n\u00edm byla i jeho sestra Maria, kter\u00e1 psala svou pr\u00e1ci o Adamu Mickiewiczovi. D\u00edky sv\u00e9mu \u0161lechtick\u00e9mu p\u016fvodu nav\u00e1zal styky s&nbsp;Misi\u00ed Godebskou-Sertovou a Lily Pastr\u00e9ovou. V&nbsp;jejich salonech, kde se sch\u00e1zeli um\u011blci z&nbsp;okruhu rusk\u00fdch balet\u016f Sergeje \u010eagileva, se sezn\u00e1mil s&nbsp;Jeanem Cocteauem, Igorem Stravinsk\u00fdm, Mauricem Ravelem, Nicolasem Nabokovem \u010di Pablem Picassem. Za Jacquesem Maritainem zaj\u00ed\u017ed\u011bl do Meudonu u Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017ee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Objevil pro sebe mal\u00ed\u0159sk\u00e9 d\u00edlo Bonnardovo a C\u00e9zannovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1925<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pracoval v&nbsp;Pa\u0159\u00ed\u017ei jako kresl\u00ed\u0159 pro m\u00f3dn\u00ed \u017eurn\u00e1ly; p\u0159\u00edle\u017eitostn\u011b doch\u00e1zel na hodiny v Acad\u00e9mie Colarossi a v Acad\u00e9mie Ranson. Sezn\u00e1mil se s&nbsp;Rogerem Bissi\u00e8rem. S&nbsp;kapisty jezdil malovat v&nbsp;exteri\u00e9ru do La Ciotat. Zakoupila si obrazy kapist\u016f.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1930<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Uskupen\u00ed kapist\u016f poprv\u00e9 vystavilo sv\u00e9 obrazy ve Francii, konkr\u00e9tn\u011b v&nbsp;pa\u0159\u00ed\u017esk\u00e9 galerii Zak na Place St.-Germain-des-Pr\u00e9s. Czapski prezentoval n\u011bkolik sv\u00fdch d\u011bl. Czapski pob\u00fdval ve \u010ckalovu, Moskv\u011b a Kujby\u0161evu, aby tam shrom\u00e1\u017edil informace, co se stalo s&nbsp;v\u00edce ne\u017e 21 tis\u00edci zmizel\u00fdmi polsk\u00fdmi zajatci. Ve \u010ckalovu hovo\u0159il s&nbsp;velitelem gulagu gener\u00e1lem Nasjedkinem.
